Seeking Musicians and Sound Artists

The Mutant Audio Outpost is seeking musicians and sound artists interested in performing at Burning Man 08.

Our goal is to fill our camp schedule with live performances by artists who are doing something different musically and are challenging their audience to view music and audio in a new way. Artists that are implementing unusual methodology, instrumentation, or equipment in the creation of their sound and music are encouraged to contact us. We would love to take a listen!

We are open to both electronic and acoustic acts, but please note that we are not scheduling DJs. This is not intended as a slight to the many talented DJs out there. We simply feel that there are enough other camps for them to play at, most of which are far more suited for it - in terms of sound system and camp setup - than we would be.

Interested artists and musicians should send an email to rbaseel / at / gmail / dot / com. Please include the following information:

  • Your name, as well as the name you perform under or name of your group, if different from your own. If you have more than one person in your group, please let us know who they are as well.
  • A link to your music. It is imperative that we have some idea of what you sound like that goes beyond a text description. Emails containing attachments will be deleted unless specific arrangement has been made with the artist before receiving the attachment.
  • Contact information is a big help! If all you want to give is an email address that is perfectly fine, but providing us with a phone number as well can make scheduling much easier.

Theme Camp Questionnaire

The MAO has just turned in its 2008 Theme Camp Questionnaire. We have requested a spot in the 9:00 plaza, partially to switch things up a bit from last year’s 3:00 plaza location. Our backup requests are the 3:00 plaza and the 7:30 street, so we’ll post more information as it becomes available to us.

Preparing for BM08

After a successful Burn in 2007, plans are underway for the MAO in 2008. We are re-evaluating things for our second year as a theme camp, learning from our mistakes, and thinking up some interesting new twists and changes to add to the camp.

There are a few obstacles this year that we are slowly taking care of. What would the Burn be without unexpected problems and “plan B” situations? Luckily enough, we still have just about everything we need from last year, with just a few more things to buy like a ladder, some new rope, and some better stakes. We’re down a few of our crew from last year, but this year will see the arrival of some new camp members as well, so with a bit of luck the work load and financial costs will work out nicely for everyone.

Stay tuned for more information, which will be posted as our camp planning develops
